Back to M&M



		Aaah, back at Rådhuspladsen - the public square at København's city hall! This is Danmark's icon of the big city. From Rådhuspladsen, the bells of the clock tower are broadcast across the country at the beginning of each hour's newscast.




Kings didn't always rule from København, so there are castles built all over. Here's Mike showing the boats parked in Frederiksholms Kanal, the moat in front of Christiansborg Castle, now Danmark's parliament building.



Fairy-tale-queen Hans Christian Andersen moved to live amongst the sailors here in Nyhavn!




	The Mermaid is really a small little bronze statue situated in København's industrial port - not the idyllic scene you see in postcards. The statue was ridiculed for decades for being an artificial national icon built by wealthy corporations (Carlsberg).



		The King's old vacation and hunting grounds just outside downtown København. The wonderful 'Helle and Frank' insist that any good excursion to Dyrehaven starts with rich coffee and fresh Danish pastries!
			Mark is watched by the grazing deer.
	While Helene and Mike rode on horseback, the other three got soaked in the rain.
			And there is no better way to finish off a rainy day in Dyrehaven than a hyggelig stroll in the late-afternoon sunshine through Bakken (and a ride, and another ride, and ... ). Wheeeee!




Helle got us hooked on breakfast on the historic Amagertorv, at Café Norden.



This is the grand Fredericksborg Castle, in Hillerød, in northern Sjælland.





	Frank showed me his and Helle's favourite place for going hang-gliding: Rågelege on the northern tip of Sjælland.




	Christianshavn, on the Amager Island side of København, is becoming renovated and rejuvenated.



This section is about our climb to the top of Vorre Frelsers Kirke (Our Saviour's Church) in Christianshavn.
We made it ...

		... and the view was fabulous!





		This was a warm little nook in a Ministry of Education building.



Visiting Mike's delightful Aunt Birgit up on Sjælland's Odde is all about enjoying the sea coast and lots and lots of wonderful meals. Breakfast on the side patio facing the sun starts each day right!
	On this evening, Birgit introduces us to fresh fish caught that day, and we introduce Birgit to really having broccoli with dinner - LOTS of broccoli - and to the joy of Byzantium-style fag martinis!

	Århus - the new and the old.




		We had a grand day with the charming 'Belinda and Jens'. Here's Belinda with us at the Queen's summer cottage.




Waiting in Svendborg, on southern Fyn, for the ferry over to Ærø. We're heading on a biking day-trip of the 15 km island.

Ærøskøbing is a cute little idyllic town.

		Any good Danish outing starts with a pastry break!

	It was May, so fields and trees were in full bloom.

		After lunch of Havarti on crisp-bread, and Gammel Dansk ...
	... and a pee in the woods ...
		... we were on the hunt for windmill farms.

	What a day!

		Our last day in Danmark was a gorgeous 25C day, which HAD to be enjoyed on (the nude) Bellevue Beach in Klampenborg ...

... our last evening in København was enjoyed with Frank and Helle, and some FAB soft ice ...

	... and our last night in København was at the Angel Party in Christiania, with Glen, Harry, Carsten, Henrik, and the unforgettable bartender, Morten.




		Arriving in Toronto is always a joy ...	... its nice to be home, and Mark's dad again picks us up!
			The family's glad to have Mark back again.
